Who should be person I appoint to make health care decisions for me if I am unable to communicate? Known as your Health Care Proxy or Power of Attorney for Health Care or Agent, that person must be someone who is thoroughly familiar with your wishes regarding end-of-life quality of life. That person –and you may only select one person at a time –must balance your wishes for continuing life when there may be no hope of recovery, or recovery but with a poor quality of life. This should be discussed with your estate planning attorney – and the person you appoint to carry out this most important task — in great detail.
