What is the difference between Elderlaw and Medicaid Planning?

January 24, 2019 by Jack N. Alpern, Estate Planning Attorney

What is the difference between Elderlaw and Medicaid Planning?  In our practice, there is very little difference. While Elderlaw normally involves a wide range of issues, such as making certain that our clients are well prepared for the unexpected events of life (such as sudden disability or death, access to medical information by family members, etc.), Medicaid Planning include all of those issues but is more focused on a narrower subject:  how can you protect your hard-earned assets from being eroded or completely used up by the cost of nursing home care? Some families have the need for both types of services. In order to determine what is right for you and your family, an in-person consultation with a knowledgeable and experienced Elderlaw attorney is the best way to start.
