Is it a good idea to discuss my estate plan with my children? Disclosure of your intentions now can prevent children being blind-sided after you pass away. I recommend at least revealing how your assets will be divided and who will be in charge, even if you do not disclose the amount of the expected inheritance. The reactions of your children may surprise you—pleasantly or otherwise—but at least you will be aware if there are issues which may lead to significant friction in the future.
