Is it a good idea to leave an inheritance directly to grandchildren instead of to their parents? The answer depends upon many factors, such as the age and maturity of the grandchildren, their ability to manage finances and whether having their own money will cause their parents to lose control over the grandchildren. It is also possible to destroy ambition and self-esteem by leaving large sums to grandchildren. This should be discussed with your estate planning attorney.
