Warren – Local Estate Planning Attorney, Jack N. Alpern, attended an educational conference in Denver, CO in May sponsored by the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. The Academy is a renowned national educational organization that promotes excellence in estate planning by providing member attorneys with research and vital updates in estate, tax and business planning law for 15 years. The Academy provided estate planning educational training on: Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits, Ethical Estate Planning, Representing Trustees, Addressing Problem Assets and Trust Administration. Additional training focused on the innovative planning techniques for Legacy Wealth Planning.
Attorney Alpern focuses his practice exclusively on estate and elder law planning and believes strongly in continuing education and felt the topics covered at this conference made it essential that he attend this event. “Since our practice focuses exclusively in estate planning, it is our first priority to be on top of the continuous changes in the law and the new developments and techniques we can make available to our clients,” says Attorney Alpern. “A requirement of our Academy membership is to complete a minimum of 36 continuing legal education hours specifically in estate, tax, probate or elder law planning each year.”
“This event was of particular interest to our firm because it marked the 15-year anniversary of the Academy and it also focused on the ground-breaking Legacy Wealth Planning techniques,” says Attorney Alpern. “Our firm has always focused on families passing on their financial wealth to future generations and their non-financial wealth such as family values, traditions and heritage, which is often overlooked in traditional planning,” says Attorney Alpern. “We provide families easy to understand methods in which they can fulfill their desire to distribute assets, as well as their own inspiration, values and wisdom.”
“Another topic of interest was the Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits presentation. Since many of our clients are veterans, we need to educate them on how their benefits will work and make the most of those benefits when setting up their estate plans,” says Attorney Alpern. “Often times, we see these benefits not being utilized or being lost in the planning process.”
