Is preplanning and prepaying for funeral and burial a good idea? Absolutely. Preplanning for your final expenses avoids your family paying for a funeral which may not have been consistent with your wishes. Prepaying for funeral and burial is also prudent, since amounts paid do not have to be used to pay nursing home expenses, in order to qualify for Medicaid. These issues should be discussed with your estate planning attorney.
