What is the purpose of a “HIPAA” Authorization? HIPAA, the federal privacy law, prohibits anyone holding your medical records from releasing that information to others, unless you authorize such release. The authorization form tells your medical providers who they are authorized to release information to. If someone is not on that form, no information can be released to them. This is a critically important document for you to have. See your estate planning attorney for more information.
