Are step-children entitled to inherit from you? Under Ohio law, the answer is no. They can only inherit from you in either of the following two situations: (1) you specifically mention them in your will or trust as an inheritor, or (2) you legally adopt them through a court proceeding (after which they are considered your children). Remember that you can adopt a person regardless of their age. This should be approached carefully with the assistance of your estate planning attorney.
